Tips of bullets being danaged when loaded from magazine

Post by Al Everett » Wed Sep 05, 2018 12:09 am

I was noticing the accuracy of my Sfx wasn’t what others obtained. Today I did some experimenting. Discovered that when a rounds loads from the mag after a shot, the tip is damaged. Doesn’t happen when I hand rack the slide. Also, one of my mags won’t load a Truncated nose Bullet at all. The other loads it but the tips are damaged. Happens with FMJ as well as plated and polycoated. Any ideas what the problem is?

Very interesting!

May i ask if you can take out the bullet gently and try to see which part may cause the damage. Is it the top, bottom, left (ejector side) or maybe right side where the damage is?

Can you tell where its hitting? If so get a pic of that too. If not a pic with slide back mag in and up close toward the bullet and feed ramp. Guessing right now perhaps feed ramp machined incorrectly.

How about from a different perspective.......

Cant believe it's the barrel not machined properly-CNC machining can't be that far off...

How about this---an overpowering recoil spring AND/OR a weak magazine spring, affecting the timing function of the pistol...

A pic of slide locked back and loaded mag in could definitely help.

Does it happen with the first few rounds out of a topped off mag-the last few or ALL of them?

Magazine not fully seated or loose fit? That one should be immediately obvious.

Are you using factory ammo exclusively?

Looks like a "smiley" to me. Caused by recoil causing the top round in the mag to jump forward and impact against the feed ramp during the firing process. The rounds is then stripped from the mag and chambered with the deformation on the nose.

My LCP does this, but it's a lot snappier than SFx...

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I have to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to Garrett at Support@CenturyArms.com. He reached out to me after seeing my problem on the forum. 3 emails and a new recoil spring and 2 new mags are on the way. This should fix the problem but if not then they will get the gun and fix it.
I have never seen this level of support on ANY product I have purchased. Amazing. I am a customer for life.
Thank you Garrett.

I’m having a similar problem but only with 10 round magazines. I bought a few to try for quicker reloads in IDPA ESP and USPSA Production and my SFx isn’t reliable 100% of the time.

Anyone else experience this with the 10 round magazines?

Ive also dealt with Garrett recently. He submitted my order for the reduced power RSA as soon as I reported the issue (weak ejections), no questions asked. Any time I emailed him I got a quick, friendly response. The guy is helpful to a fault. I hope his supervisors see this thread.

Hey guys, thanks for the nice comments, I do appreciate it very nice. Someone actually sent me a link to see how often my name pops up round these parts.
I am always more then happy to help anyone out, for any reason and offer any help and advice needed, along with getting you fixed up anyway possible.

If I can sneak in a pun once in a while, I absolutely will. Gotta keep the good times rolling. I also drink alot of coffee which I am sure helps.

Have a great day, and enjoy your Canik's!

Puns... When I asked how long it would take to get my RSA he said it would be here Monday. I wanted it over the weekend and in my frustration I typed "KHAAAAAAAANN!!". Garretts response was "I have been, and always shall be, be your friend." I love this guy. Thought I would let him know how much the community appreciates him. And as a bonus, Im always happy to meet a sci-fi nerd who loves guns.
