Favorite match loads for the SFx?

Post by jtaylor996 » Sun Aug 05, 2018 6:45 pm

I need to come up with a good match load for my SFx, and crank out a ton of ammo for it.

I usually load pretty short for my 1911, but I'd rather go longer for this gun. What's a happy COAL for this gun?

I'll be using 124gr montana gold JHPs over N320 or titegroup.

I have been using "Rapidammo.com" 124 gr loaded with Hodgdon Powder, a CCI Primer and is capped with a Berrys Bullet. He is a local guy that now sells on line. I have been picking up 1000 rds at a time. Now I am saving money to purchase my own 650xl and ramp up to 147gr that I have shot before (only about 50 of) and think I might like. I'm finding that the COAL on these is 1.1 and just under. I have shot about 3500 thru my SFx, and 2000 thru My DA.

In general for 9mm, I'd recommend at least a 124-125 weight bullet, over a fast ball powder. It'll feel the least snappy. I've never used titegroup, but have seen more than a few blown out primers and stuck cases from it. Some people use it forever and never have a problem with it though. It's a powder where, if you change a single thing in the load, you need to do a complete re-work. Titegroup is known for going from happy to explosive without showing any signs in between.

I am currently using an Xtreme 147 plated bullet, loaded in front of 3.7 grains of Shooters World Clean Pistol, with a COAL of 1.147". It made approximately 130PF over a chrono at an IDPA match this year. Shooters World Clean Pistol may well be Accurate's #2 powder, prior to being bought out be Western Powders. I've used #2 before, and liked it, but it wasn't always available so I stopped.

Count me in the group of people who've been using titegroup for more than a decade with zero issues. I've used it for 9/40/357 and probably more than that. The only issue I have with it is that it get the gun very hot, and sometimes stanks when you're using coated bullets.

My buddy has been loading 3.1/3.2 N320 with 147 FP Acme red coated bullets at 1.160 with good results. I bummed 50 from him to try in the SFx and thought highly off them
I'm currently planning a 3.0/3.1/3.2 experiment with the Alliant Sport Pistol at 1.155 COAL. (147 FP Acme) The guys on Brian Enos forum have been raving about it, saying it feels/acts like N320, but runs much cooler so it doesn't melt the coating off polymer coated bullets. It's a lot less money too. We'll see.

I’m using 3.2 grain titegroup, cci primers and Gallant 135gr bullets. I prefer the middle ground between 124-147 and they work in the boys pcc as well. I am thinking of trying sport pistol or Prima V next time I buy powder
