Range Day with the SA Mod2, DA and CZ P07

Post by Janik » Wed Sep 05, 2018 1:42 pm

Got in a little range time over the weekend with the TP9DA, SA Mod2 and the CZ P07. The SA and CZ have no aftermarket products (yet), while the DA has Tru Glo Tritium Pro night sights added to it. The SA Mod2 as well as the CZ P07 are incredibly accurate, but I can't say I like them as much as the DA. I used to think the TP9V2 could never be surpassed, but the more range time I have with the DA, the more I really like it and tend to shoot it the most. I grew up with DA/SA handguns so I don't have a problem with the transition, and it's my personal preference. I shoot my Elite, SFx and SFL exceptionally well too, but I'm partial to the DA. Maybe it's the weight and size that play into why I favor it, I don't really know. And I definitely prefer the trigger on the TP9DA vs the DA/SA trigger on the CZ P07. Yes, I could Cajunize the P07, but why? I paid $100 more for the CZ, yet I prefer the out of the box trigger of the DA. I even prefer the DA over my Walther P99 full size. Though my Walther P99c is still my favorite EDC. For an all around home defense and carry gun, I think the DA is it for me, and I should stop investing in other firearms. In the competition realm though, the SFx with the Fat Daddy trigger is the sh**.

+1 on the DA. I love mine.
When my first one arrived....I was so impressed with the darned trigger that I went online and ordered a 2nd one before I even shot the first one. I knew the C-100 was a good shooter- and I assumed the TP9 series was as good.

No doubt in my redneck mind..... the DA is the best striker fired gun I have ever seen.

I just put a 4th one on layaway at Buds Gun Shop. I decided to make the TP9DA my main firearm. Now I'll have a couple spread out throughout the home and one in each of the nightstands. Plus it doesn't hurt to have a backup for my backup.

Oh man.......I wish. I might have to do that once my medical budget allows.....
But right now I'm just thankful I am not a liberal.

I hope things improve for you soon so you can stock up on them while the gettin' is good. Hopefully we'll continue to maintain control in November. If not, I know gun control is a big issue for the Libs.

I must be the odd man out again, I prefer the SA triggers of the SA and Elite over the DA.

You can just do the springs on the CZ which will cost ya like $20-30 and give an improvment but I plan to do the whole thing springs, trigger, hammer, etc. with mine.

Like my SF Elite very well and I have 2 CZ P-07's and a P-09.
I do like the CZ's for being DA/SA but also like my Elite.
I like good pistols!

Yah I'm in a quandary. I really want a P09, but I'm also holding out for an Elite Combat later this month. I also plan to add the SP01 Phantom to my collection someday.

The D/A half of the trigger gives me peace of mind. The S/A half lets me hit closer to the target! Its a win/win combination. :-D

I like the Elite, it does shoot good- no doubt at all. But I'm still a little squirrely about unintended discharges. I certainly do not want to give myself uh...

That's kinda where I am. I grew up with DA/SA, and I'm very comfortable with it. When I worked in law enforcement, I carried a DA/SA handgun. I'm no firearm expert, but I have a lot of trigger time. I use my SA only handguns for competition and range time. If I was still in law enforcement, I'd probably carry an SA only. But when I'm tucking a gun in my waistband, I prefer the DA trigger pull for peace of mind. At self defense distances I can put rounds center mass no problem with the DA trigger pull. Also whenever I'm at the range, I'll run two full mags in DA only. Shoot, decock, shoot, decock, etc. It's all about practicing with the firearms you carry and use.

Been carrying mostly Glocks for 15 years so I guess I'm accustomed to the SA trigger type triggers and no manual safteys.

Do agree doing alot of DA practice at the range is good, do that with my cz's and bhp.

No telling how many old guys are out there who do not believe you are protected unless you have a 1911 strapped on....and carry in condition 1. I kinda remember that notion?

I trained on the 1911...but once I started shooting a little (always hunted- rifle or shotgun) I started with the DA/SA and that seems more normal for me. In the past few years I have tried DAO first and its okay- like the Kahrs, S&W's- but just not quiet there for me. I tried a Glock 22 maybe 15 years ago? Didn't like it then. Might like it better today since I have the Elite and a Walther. I shoot them on occasion.

I like my V2 quite a bit, but shooting the Px4 Compact and the P07 along with it in drills, the P07 seems to be coming out on top. For me the grip comfort, and lesser muzzle flip of the two hammer fired pistols seem to make them easier for me to drive from target to target and get faster follow ups with. The P07 trigger seems much smoother now that I have over 1500 rounds through it. The Px4 trigger was always a smooth even pull through the entire DA trigger stroke and even better with a Wilson Combat hammer spring in it.

The V2 shoots really well but I just shoot it a bit slower and it is a bit heavier and larger than the other two.

I've only a couple hundred rounds so far through my P07, so it may get better with time. I really do like it and will be adding a P09 to my collection someday. My Canik triggers probably feel a little smoother since I have more rounds through them. But I do like and shoot the CZ very well, so I do plan to add the P09. Plus, it's also fun to shoot when I put the Kadet on it and plink with 22lr ammo. I still want a PX4, just have to come up with the money to buy one.

My P07 is set up manual safety. My Springfield XDG has a grip safety. And one of my Elites is a S. There are many times coming home from work I slip one in my pants to go to store. I'm sure a P07 would be just as safe hammer down. I don't want a trigger transition. I want every shot to be same.
Here's a question for you all. I've shot my Elite and P07 side by side and the Elite is a much softer shooting pistol IMO. Anyone agree?

I do agree, since the barrel is a bit longer, it seems to be a little softer. I haven't weighed them but my uneducated guess would be the added weight and longer barrel. I may have to jump on the websites and look to see what the empty weight is for each model.

My 1st thought was recoil spring since my Elite doesn’t throw brass as far as the P07 does. I’m pretty sure it could use a stronger recoil spring, but I’ve never looked into that.
